Art + Practice Year 12

Polymode designed the Art + Practice Year 12 catalogue and a related collection of swag, creating an expansive visual system that reflects the breadth of A+P’s work across contemporary art, education, foster youth initiatives, and community life in Leimert Park.

The publication documents a year of exhibitions, partnerships, conversations, and programs. For Year 12, we developed an expressive typographic approach using Kosmos by Good Type Foundry and Owners by MCKL, pairing the typefaces with a custom-designed type treatment. The cover establishes the visual language with a saturated, abstract field of blurred color and layered forms, overlaid with white type that creates a striking contrast between softness and precision. Typography shifts in scale and expression throughout the publication, creating moments of emphasis and surprise across essays, interviews, program highlights, and exhibition documentation, while a custom color system differentiates each section and creates a unique visual rhythm across the pages. Bold fields of color with expressive typography and photography allow the publication to move fluidly between A+P’s areas of work, while a custom coloring-book page introduces an interactive element that invites readers to engage with the catalogue.

The accompanying swag extends this visual language into a playful collection of collectible objects: a large Tyvek tote features the vivid full-color gradient; a notebook uses the same saturated palette, with repeated Art + Practice lettering; and a colorful enamel pin and matching keychain. Together, the catalogue and accompanying swag extend A+P’s expressive identity across applications, celebrating the organization’s commitment to art, education, creativity, and community.
