National Public Housing Museum

Polymode partnered with The National Public House Museum (NPHM) to create a new website and strengthen their  brand. Located in Chicago’s Near West Side in the last remaining building of the historic Jane Addams Homes, the NPHM is dedicated to telling stories of public housing through their virtual exhibitions and in-depth oral history archive. The archive portion of the website hosts a series of oral histories and educational resources aimed to share and activate stories from the people who call public housing home, becoming a source of power, knowledge, and strength in the struggles for housing justice.

The website was designed to reflect the historical depth, inspiration, and visual storytelling aspects for an immersive web experience. The grid system is a fine modular grid that allows for nuance, variation, and dynamism throughout each of the pages; while still allowing for moments to break out of the system for special moments to highlight. The website was designed with custom interactive components that include content modules, horizontal and vertical content cards, layered quotes, and layered stories scattered throughout each of the sections.
